Christmas Mothballs

This was my mother's favorite Christmas no-bake cookie/candy
1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped  (do not use dates that have been sugar coated)
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla (or favorite port, whiskey, or rum)
1 c. chopped pecans or chopped walnuts
2 c. Rice Krispies
powdered sugar to roll the finished mothballs in
Cook first 3 ingredients together stirring constantly until butter melts, dates become almost liquified, and mixture is unified.  This takes about 6 to 10 minutes.  Remove from heat and add next 3 ingredients. Cool slightly. Form into balls and roll in powdered sugar. Store in airtight container.
